Events and Black Activism
Other black activsts were making statements without the structure of the Civil Rights Movement or the Black Panthers. From Lena Horne's comments at a luncheon given by first lady Lady Bird Johnson, to the blossoming careers of Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby, black celebrities were gaining recognition as part of the mainstream culture of the country.


One of the most visable protests occured in Mexico when some of the black athletes gave the "black power salute" when receiving their medals.
